VIDEOS: Samsung's three new wearables to watch, get fit and listen to

By

Samsung's desire to have an ecosystem as fluid and integrated as Apple's continues with its latest S10 smartphones and new wearables range, the Galaxy Watch Active, the Galaxy Fit and the Galaxy Buds.

As you'd expect, Samsung states its smartwatch, activity tracker and cord-free earbuds are "made for a range of lifestyles".

D.J. Koh, president and chief executive of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics, said: "Consumers are increasingly putting their overall wellbeing at the centre of their lifestyle decisions, and they’re looking for wearables that make it easier to get active and stay balanced every day.

“Everyone has their own way of pursuing their goals. We’re thrilled to introduce our new line of wearables to fit seamlessly into your life and complement your own personal wellness journey.”

Samsung Electronics Australia confirmed it will be bringing each of the new Galaxy wearables to Australia with "local pricing and availability to be announced closer to the local launch".

The company reminds us that "customers who pre-order a Galaxy S10 from participating retailers between 9.00am AEDT February 21, 2019 and midnight AEDT March 7, 2019 will be eligible to receive a bonus set of Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds valued at $249", with the S10 smartphones due to go on sale in Australia on 8 March.

Garry McGregor, vice-president of IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia, said: "Health and fitness continue to be a focus for many Australians who are looking for technology that can help them track and monitor their well-being.

“With our heritage in design and connected capabilities and services, Samsung is uniquely placed to create wearables that can help people who want to live better every day.

“Whether it’s through premium sound, wireless connectivity, enhanced fitness tracking, or accurate GPS, our new range of wearables have been designed to seamlessly integrate with our smartphones, expanding their capabilities and providing Australians with an enriched Galaxy experience.”

For the new Watch Active, here are the new features, which even includes blood pressure monitoring:

  • Blood pressure monitoring: New to the Galaxy wearable line, Galaxy Watch Active puts smarter blood pressure tracking on your wrist. Download My BP Lab, the research app jointly developed with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), directly to Galaxy Watch Active to monitor blood pressure and keep better track of your physical health every day. This feature is available in 5 countries including: U.S., U.K., Canada, Singapore, Australia, and Germany
  • Everyday peace of mind: Managing stress is now even easier with the Stress Tracker on the Galaxy Watch Active. Keep your stress levels in check via the Stress Widget which helpful features such as breathing exercises.
  • Easy fitness tracking: Choose your activity and get started. It’s as easy as that. Galaxy Watch Active keeps up with you by auto-detecting when you run, cycle, row, use the elliptical trainer, or start a dynamic workout. You can manually engage in more than 39 activities, set daily goals and monitor your progress.

For the new Galaxy Fit and Fit e, Samsung states both are think and lightweight, and "enable easy and intuitive tracking to help you reach your fitness goals".

Both models "automatically start tracking your activity when you walk, run, cycle, row, hop on the elliptical trainer2 or start a general dynamic workout.

"You can also manually select from more than 90 different activities in the Samsung Health app on your smartphone, and Galaxy Fit/Galaxy Fit e will automatically start to track your chosen workout. Plus, with enhanced sleep analysis and smart stress management, you can monitor your wellbeing at any time of the day.

"Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e are easy to interact with on the go, thanks to a simple and intuitive UX and a user-friendly smart experience. Receive alerts and messages or check the widget which includes information synced straight from your smartphone — like alarm, calendar or weather — without ever needing to touch your phone.

"When you travel to a new time zone, your Galaxy Fit will also automatically display a dual-clock watch face to make it easier to manage your schedule. Both devices are water resistant of 5ATM3, so they can easily go with you from the shower to the pool to the rest of your day".

Then there's the new wireless and wirelessly chargeable Galaxy Buds, dubbed "the in-ear lifestyle companion".

Samsung says: "Galaxy Buds are the ultimate cord-free earbuds for those who want a seamlessly connected experience on the go. With their truly comfortable form factor, easy controls, clear and smart sound, and compact size—they are an everyday in-ear lifestyle companion.

"Galaxy Buds offer a supreme listening experience, with sound by AKG. Enhanced Ambient Sound allows you to hear your surroundings clearly even while the buds are in your ears, so you can remain aware of your environment at the same time as you take a phone call or listen to your favourite tunes. Premium sound extends to the sound of your voice, as well.

"The Adaptive Dual Microphone uses one inner microphone and one outer microphone in each earbud, so you can deliver your voice clearly in both loud and quiet environments.

"Galaxy Buds keep up with you all day, with up to six hours of Bluetooth streaming, and up to five hours of calls. Plus, their compact case holds a charge for up to seven hours, and gives the Galaxy Buds 1.7 hours on a 15-minute quick charge.

"With wireless charging and device-to-device power sharing, you can also get a quick charging boost on the go from Galaxy S10 which is the latest Samsung smartphone.

"Galaxy Buds integrate with Bixby on the latest Galaxy mobile devices, so you can activate your intelligent assistant quickly without ever picking up your phone. Simply use your voice to make calls, send text messages or check the battery life of your earbuds".
