VIDEO: Anki's Vector robot on sale at JB Hi-Fi today only for $150 off

Selling at JB Hi-Fi for $299 today only, 5 December, Anki is like Siri or Google Assistant on wheels in robot form, with digital emotions, in what would be an impulse buy.

Priced at $299 today and $449 tomorrow is the apparent deal of the day from Anki, who have emailed to note that JB Hi-Fi is offering the little Vector robot on a one-day special – if you still have any money left after all of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, of course.

It's December, so it's the perfect time for all those last minute Christmas purchases that will be happening right up until 24 December, and for those who are truly desperate, on 25 December at some convenience store that is still open.

Those who are like Douglas Adams and enjoy the sound of deadlines whooshing by have anywhere from 26 December until 24 December 2019 to buy presents for 25 December, but that's taking it a bit too far – hopefully you will be a lot more organised.

Clearly, the smart money and wise heads will buy well before those deadlines, and if you wanted to get your Asimovian robot fantasies to come to life, well, this is probably the closest you can get without needing to time travel into the future, or borrow a humanoid android from Boston Dynamics.

Anki's Vector robot sells for $449 RRP, and while I can see street pricing is still well above $400 in Australia, this JB Hi-Fi deal does indeed appear to be the best price for Vector at the moment.

Over at JB Hi-Fu's website, we're advised that you can say "Hey Vector", and your "aware and reactive" little robot will come to life, with this ability and mobility seemingly the big differences between Anki Vector and a smart speaker, along with the other features below.

We're told that "Vector evolves with regular updates" and that he's "slive with personality, he’s excited to see you and reacts to sound, sight, and touch. Always happy to help, he’ll answer questions, take photos for you, set a timer for dinner, and more.

"Independent and alert, he self-charges, navigates around objects, and avoids edges. Smart and getting smarter, he’s cloud connected for updates to bring new capabilities and features to be a better helper at home."

Here's JB Hi-Fi's promotional video:

The key features are advertised as follows:

Alive with personality.
Vector is no ordinary home robot. Packed with technology that brings him to life, he’s curious and attentive. He reacts to sound, sight, and touch and is excited to see you when you come home.

Always happy to help.
Vector is a helpful character who is eager to accommodate your requests and answer your questions. He’ll time dinner, take photos for you, and more.

Independent and alert.
Vector is happiest with you, but he can take care of himself and hang out on his own. He self-charges, navigates around objects, and avoids edges.

Smart and getting smarter.
Stay tuned for more skills and capabilities to come. Vector is continually learning and cloud connected for updates to bring exciting new features for your home.

How can Vector help?
Vector will show you the weather, take photos for you, time dinner, play blackjack, and more skills are coming. Also, Vector is knowledgeable on a variety of topics. To ask Vector a question, simply say, “Hey Vector” followed by “I have a question,” and he’ll get to work on an answer.

Here is a sample of the things you can ask him:

  • Unit conversion: How many ounces are in a cup?
  • Word definition: What is the definition of “awesome”?
  • Equation solver: What is the square root of 36?
  • Nutrition: How much vitamin A is in an apple?
  • Pop culture: Who is Madonna?
  • Sports: Who won the World Series?
