Samsung Galaxy Watch to be a Telstra exclusive in Australia

By

Although Telstra, Vodafone and Optus are selling the Apple Watch Series 4, the fine print shows Telstra will be the sole carrier to sell Samsung's new Galaxy Watch.

Apple may have launched its new Apple Watch Series 4 with features including an ECG reader with Atrial Fibrillation detection, but sadly, those two features won't be available at launch in the US, and they'll take even longer to get to Australia.

In the meantime, for those who don't want an Apple Watch, nor an Android Wear watch, there's Samsung's new Tizen-powered Galaxy Watch.

It looks very impressive, and unlike Apple, has a round watch face, with photorealistic-looking watch faces.

Obviously, the different watches on offer from different companies don't appeal to every user, so thankfully, we have choices in our mostly free world, which is a great thing for competition and the competitive spirit.

Samsung's new watch also offers LTE connectivity, with several days of promised battery life, something that outdoes the true smartwatch competition.

You can see more on Samsung's watch here, where you'll also see the fine-print that states, "Cellular connectivity available on selected plans over the Telstra network only. Requires a paired compatible smartphone and internet connection. Additional charges may apply."

Samsung will obviously be selling its Watch at its own stores and online, or at least, you'd certainly expect so, with Telstra having the "exclusive" on Galaxy Watch sales.

You'd have imagined wanting to sell it via all carriers, not just Telstra, but what the true behind-the-scenes machinations on sales via carriers are, I don't know, but it looks like you'll need to be a Telstra customer if you want cellular connectivity.
