Kogan Mobile boosts XL plan to 32GB and L plan to 17GB as pre-paid war rages

A new hope for even more data from pre-paid providers not yet offering unlimited plans has emerged from the Kogan Mobile empire, striking back at competitors with boosted data bundles.

If you're a pre-paid mobile customer, you've probably noticed that many plans from various MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) are like an attack of the clones.

Whether they offer 28-day or 30-day plans, they're all offering more data than ever, with several choosing to differentiate themselves by offering some quantity or even an unlimited amount of international mobile calls to various destinations.

The big telcos who feed the MVNOs usually keep things like unmetered data to various online services, inexpensive international roaming or even unlimited data plans to themselves, but this still leaves space for the MVNOs to compete.

One of the big competitors is Kogan Mobile, which has now increased the data allowance for "six of its offerings", with its latest addition being increasing the L plan from 16GB to 17GB, and the XL plan from 23GB to a whopping 32GB.

The company points to ABS stats showing "mobile downloads increasing almost 40% last year from the year prior" as part of its reasoning for the change, but it's obviously also a competitive move and something the company is able to do within its margins and still make what is presumably a good enough profit to keep it happy.

The move is "effective immediately as a permanent change available to new and existing Kogan Mobile customers at no additional cost".

The Kogan Mobile EXTRA LARGE plan can be purchased in 30-, 90- and 365-day variants, and as noted, goes from 23GB to 32GB mobile data per 30 days, in addition to unlimited standard national talk and text to use in Australia.

For the 30-day plan, you pay $49.90, for the 90-day plan, this equates to $46.64 per 30 days (at $139.90 pre-paid for 90 days access), and for the 365-day plan, this equates to $43.56 per 30 days (at $529.90 pre-paid for 365 days access).

The Kogan Mobile LARGE plan is also available in 30-, 90- and 365-day variants, going from 16GB to 17GB of mobile data per 30 days, in addition to unlimited standard national talk and text to use in Australia.

For the 30-day plan, you pay $36.90, for the 90-day plan, this equates to $33.30 per 30 days (at $99.90 pre-paid for 90 days access), and for the 365-day plan, this equates to $32.87 per 30 days (at $399.90 prepaid for 365 days access).

For new customers only, and for a limited time only, Kogan Mobile is also offering an addition reason "to sign up now", as it is currently running a "two for one deal" on the LARGE and EXTRA LARGE 365-day pre-paid plans.

If you "sign up with a friend or family member", you'll both be able to get Kogan Mobile for effectively half the price, plus the additional data mentioned above.

Finally, if you weren't already aware, Kogan Mobile reminds us that its MVNO service is "powered by Vodafone’s 4G network", with "hundreds of thousands of Aussies already having made the switch to Kogan Mobile, enjoying more data for less".
