Kindle Paperwhite makes down under debut

Amazon has announced that its hugely popular Kindle Paperwhite e-reader is now available down under at Dick Smith and Big W stores.

The new Paperwhite, launched worldwide this month, boasts new display technology with higher contrast, a 'next generation' built-in light, a faster processor, touch technology and new features like 'Kingle Page Flip.'

“Kindle is the best-selling e-reader in the world for six years running, and now it’s even better,” said Neil Lindsay, Vice President, Amazon Kindle.

“The new Kindle Paperwhite has brand-new display technology, the next generation of our built-in light, a faster processor, plus new features like Kindle Page Flip, Smart Lookup, Vocabulary Builder and more. We’re excited to make it even easier for our Australian customers to discover Kindle.”

Lindsay said Kindle owners read four times as many books—print and eBooks—as they do prior to owning a Kindle.

"BIG W is always looking for ways to bring the very latest in cutting edge technology to its customers at the lowest price and that's why we are so excited to be ranging the new Kindle Paperwhite." said Scott White, Head Technology Buyer for BIG W.

The new Paperwhite had previously been available through Amazon's worldwide websites, but Australian customers would have to pay for international postage.

The Kindle Paperwhite is available with a suggested retail price of AU$159, while the 3G model will be available 'in the coming weeks' with a suggested retail price of AU$229.
