Apple announced in a memo to stores on 5 May that a small number of users had experienced “functional issues” and its service policy for the 9.7” and 12.9” Smart Keyboard would be extended to three years from the date of purchase. Although not formally announced, it will issue refunds to those who have paid for replacement keyboards.
The functional issues, however, were not limited to a small number of users if the forums are anything to go by – 35,413 views on the term "iPad Pro Smart Keyboard not working".
The issues included sticking or repeating keys, sensor issues, magnetic connection issues, battery drain, and simply unresponsive keyboards. Sticky keys invariably led to the iPad not recognising the keyboard, likely a connector issue. Comments like “plastic overpriced junk” at $215 for the 9.7” and $245 also litter the forums.
Logitech reports that its Create Backlit case with a 1.5mm throw for iPad Pro 9.7” and it’s 12.9” version have been top sellers at $199.95 and $229.95 respectively. These are also sold by Apple Stores in preference to its own product!
