Internode starts selling NBN fixed wireless in Armidale

ISP Internode has begun selling Internet and VoIP services delivered via NBN Co's first fixed wireless tower.

The first NBN fixed wireless tower serves some of the area around Armidale (NSW), and Internode has started offering its services via that network.

According to Internode officials, the tower services around 770 premises.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett said the NBN fixed wireless service was designed to deliver broadband to customers living in lower-density areas. "This is about providing high-speed Internet access to areas that are largely broadband blackspots," he said.

"Although some premises may currently have ADSL or 3G mobile broadband coverage, in most cases there are few or no broadband alternatives, so it's great news for the people who live there," he added.

Internode's NBN wireless plans provide nominal 12/1Mbps connections with 30GB for $49.95, 300GB for $69.95, 600GB for $89.95 and 1TB for $139.95. The same prices apply to 12/1Mbps services on the NBN fibre network. Free setup is offered for customers entering a 24-month contract, and discounts are available on certain routers.

Certain content (including ABC iView) is unmetered regardless of the whether customers are on fibre, fixed wireless or ADSL, and provision is made for paying extra to 'top up' the monthly quota as needed, or for increasing the 'shaped' speed when the quota is exceeded.

Internode's NodePhone VoIP service is available in conjunction with NBN wireless plans.
