Frown: Gmail, Google Drive are down :-( [UPDATED] Featured

By

It's not just Bendigo Bank that is down, but Gmail and Google Drive too, with digital outages a real world problem, not just virtual ones.

UPDATE: At 5.13PM AEDT, Google reported the outage over and services restored, the Google Service Status links below have the full text. Original story continues:

If you've been having issues with your Gmail and Google Drive accounts today, you're not alone.

The Gmail outage map at Down Detector shows problems around the world, with big red marks over the east coast of Australia, in Malaysia, Japan, India and yellow marks out outage around many other parts of the world.

Google Drive over at Down Detector also shows a major outage is in progress.

Google itself has confirmed the details with almost identical messages with the same timestamp at the Gmail outage page and the Google Drive outage page, where we see Google note at 1.53pm AEDT that "We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior."

The same message appears for Google Drive, with the word Gmail replaced with Google Drive.

Personally, my Gmail account has been working for the most part, although there were instances where Gmail claimed it was offline, and some emails did take a while to appear, so the description Google has given is quite apt.

Bendigo Bank has also been offline for me today, as my iTWire colleague Stephen Withers has reported in more detail about the entire Bendigo Bank network.

For me, I noted earlier today that I couldn't log in, with a successful password entry showing a message about the network being down, and now showing the message "LOGIN UNAVAILABLE", with the follow-on statement that "Bendigo e-banking is currently unavailable".

This is then followed with: "Apologies for the inconvenience, we are working as hard as possible to return the application to service", below which is a big "Try Again" button.

You can try tapping this button, but as of publication, nothing is happening. Still, the old adage applies: if at first you don't success, try, try again – unless you're doing skydiving or giving blood.

Good luck with your Gmail, Google Drive and Bendigo Bank login efforts, and may the services be restored ASAP.
