Frickin’ lasers: Logitech’s new portable mouse works 'virtually anywhere'

By

Logitech’s MX Anywhere 2 Wireless mobile mouse avoids attaching lasers to sharks and sticks them under mice instead, working on any surface including glass.

Sick to death of optical mice that don’t work on shiny surfaces like glass? Then you need a mouse with a laser attached, something the world has seen for a few years now, but which is continually being improved.

Now comes Logitech’s new MX Anywhere 2 mouse, a wireless number that features an ‘advanced Darkfield Laser Sensor’ that sounds it like harnesses the power of the dark side to work on 'virtually' any surface, while having a new compact, contoured shape.

Small enough to slip into any bag, with a rubber surface that Logitech says makes it comfortable for prolonged use, it connects to any Windows or Mac device with either Logitech’s Pico Unifying Receiver or via Bluetooth Smart technology.

The MX Anywhere 2 can also be paired with up to three devices at once, and with a touch of the ‘Logitech Easy-Switch button’ you can switch between each device allowing you to work freely from your desktop, laptop or tablet, whether at home or on the go.

Naturally, there’s a scroll wheel, which delivers ‘hyper-fast scrolling so you can quickly read through long documents or Web pages and then shift to click-to-click mode for more precise navigation.’

For those familiar with Logitech’s MX Master Wireless Mouse, the MX Anywhere 2 can also be customised using ‘Logitech Options software’ to replicate touch gesture controls on Mac computers so you can accomplish more with precise control.

You also get two months of battery life, and when that runs out, you just need one minute of charging via USB cord to get an additional two hours of usage, so you’ll never be caught short with a powerless laser.

Kit Williams, Logitech’s senior product manager in Australia and New Zealand for the pretty nice kit that is Logitech’s mice and keyboard selection said: “The Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Wireless Mobile Mouse is our mobile version of the award-winning MX Master Wireless Mouse and delivers the best combination of connectivity, size and comfort.

“It is designed to work wherever you do, and it’s by far the most versatile portable mouse that we offer today.”

Set to go on sale in stores this month (August) for $129.95, you can find out more information at Logitech’s site here
