Android 8.0 Oreo update comes to select Android Wear 2.0 watches

By

If you're sporting an Android Wear smartwatch, chances are that it is running Android 7.0 underneath, powering Android Wear 2.0, but the Oreo 8.0 update has started rolling out.

Android Wear is Google's smartwatch platform, which has seen a wide range of models from lots of different manufacturers, just as we see with Android smartphones.

Naturally, this is the opposite of the situation from Apple, which is the only company that makes iPhones, Apple Watches and other iOS devices.

Also unlike Apple, when an update appears for Google devices, it doesn't always roll out to all Android devices at the same time.

It's also important to note that this update is not Android Wear 3.0, which is a Android OS smartwatch platform that will debut sometime in 2018.

So, what does updating a compatible Android Wear 2.0 watch to the Android Oreo 8.0 update deliver?

Android Police advises that the changes in Oreo for Android Wear include "vibration strength settings for notifications, touch lock, support for more languages and countries, and battery-saving improvements".

And which Android watches are now able to update, along with the ones that are due to get an update?

Thankfully, a Google support post gives us the details we need to know.

Google says that the Android Wear Oreo (8.0) update is already available for the following watches:

  • Fossil Q Venture
  • LG Watch Sport
  • Louis Vuitton Tambour
  • Michael Kors Sofie
  • Montblanc Summit

The company advises that the watches "currently pursuing the Android Wear Oreo (8.0) update" are as follows:

  • Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch
  • Diesel Full Guard
  • Emporio Armani Connected
