Home Home Tech New: Voice control your Mitsubishi electric air conditioner with Alexa and Google Home

If you've ever wanted to order your air conditioner around by voice so you could order up the right temperature, then Mitsubishi Electric's new voice control capability will get you talking.

There's a Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioner commercial on TV at the moment, which I found at YouTube, (and which I've embedded at the end of this article) and you'll probably remember the dialogue.

It goes: "Remember how power-hungry light globes were fifteen years ago? What about those bulky televisions, they’ve really come a long way!

"And a fifteen-year-old smartphone certainly doesn’t seem so smart these days. Well, air conditioners have come a long way in fifteen years too! They’re more streamlined, up to 40% more energy efficient AND they can now be controlled via WiFi as well… how smart’s that!"

Well, Mitsubishi Electric Australia has introduced some new smarts designed to get its customers talking quite literally in what the company says is "a new step forward" in its "commitment to continual innovation".

We're told that "all Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning units installed with Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control offer hands-free operation thanks to newly added compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

"This innovative technology gives consumers the freedom to control their unit through voice control via their smart home hub.

"As Australian homes evolve to a hands-free way of living, this innovation from Mitsubishi Electric answers consumer demand for ultimate home comfort. Just as playing music or checking the news is as simple as speaking to your smart speaker, so is controlling the air temperature.

"The new connectivity feature is simple to activate across both Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Consumers only need to link their smart speaker account to a Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control account. Once the two apps are ‘introduced’, Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control is discoverable alongside any other smart home devices within the smart speaker’s app."

Atesh Mani, national product manager, Mitsubishi Electric Australia, said that the new voice control feature was developed in response to consumer demand and is a milestone in the Company’s commitment to pioneer a better tomorrow.

Mani added: “We listened to our customers who wanted to integrate heating and cooling into their Smart Home. The addition of Amazon Alexa and Google Home compatibility to Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control provides our customers with a Smart Air Conditioning solution.

“Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control already provides great convenience. The ability to use a device to turn your air conditioner off remotely that is left on accidentally or the ability to precool or preheat your home before you get there can save energy by preventing excessive use.

"Now your air conditioner can be controlled along with other smart devices such as lights and power outlets,” Mani concluded.

The company reminds us its new voice control feature is available in Mitsubishi Electric split systems, ducted and the commercial City Multi air conditioning units installed with a Wi-Fi adapter.

So, be silent no longer and speak up to get the hot or cold treatment you desire, whereby you can speak your truth to let your voice be heard - via Alexa and/or Google Home, of course!
