The $799.95 D-Link Omna Wire-Free Indoor/Outdoor Surveillance Kit comprises two cameras and a Wi-Fi hub.
The DCS-2800LH full HD cameras are powered by lithium batteries for "significantly extended battery life," although the company didn't indicate how long a set of batteries can be expected to last. Combined with Wi-Fi communication, this means the cameras can be installed with no wiring.
The cameras – suitable for indoor and outdoor use – feature built-in night vision with an infrared illumination range of 7.5 metres, advanced motion detection capabilities, two-way audio, magnetic mounts, and mounting arms.
The kit includes a 12-month subscription to the premium tier of the service. This stores the last 14 days of footage from up to five cameras, and normally costs US$9.99 a month or US$99.99 a year.
Owners of larger installations or with a need to keep recordings longer can upgrade to the pro tier, giving 30 days of storage for up to 10 cameras.
On the other hand, the basic tier (US$2.49 a month or US$24.99 a year) keeps video from up to three cameras for a week, and there's even a free tier that stores a rolling 24 hours of footage from each of up to three cameras.
The kit also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. For example, the mydlink skill for Alexa supports voice commands such as "Show me the front door camera", or "Show me the backyard".
And there's the free mydlink mobile app that helps set up the devices, control cameras, specify schedules or event triggers, display live or saved video footage in full HD video, and display any notifications.
"Our new Omna Wire-Free Surveillance Kit gives users complete flexibility to keep an eye on the things that matter most, both inside or outside of your home, no matter the weather," said D-Link ANZ MD Graeme Reardon.
"There are no wires to run, and with high-power, rechargeable batteries powering each weather and dust-resistant camera, you'll never have to worry about running ugly network cabling throughout your home, or be restricted to installing cameras close to a power outlet again.
"It also sports advanced features including full HD 1080p video capture, combined with options to record footage to a locally connected microSD Card or USB Hard Drive, or to the mydlink cloud recording service, as well as crisp and clear two-way audio. In short Omna Wire-Free provides homes or businesses an easy choice to step up to the next level of smart surveillance solutions."
D-Link launched its first Omna product two years ago, the Apple HomeKit-compatible Omna 180 Cam HD.
