VIDEO: Don't give your teeth the brush off, instead Oral-B an A-rated app-connected genius

To be or not to Oral-B a genius is the question, with a fancy new colour to add to app-connected tooth brushing with "the world's smartest and most stylish electric toothbrush".

Remember when I wrote about the Braun Series 5 shaver, promising the smoothest tech-enhanced shaving experience at a particular price point?

Well, just like that shaver, a toothbrush isn't something you use to clean up into your IT systems, you don’t need one to program apps, they’re usually not needed when surfing the Web or composing emails, but a good, app-connected toothbrush is still a great, must-have gadget if you want your smile to shine brightly in your selfies!

Now, while Bluetooth app-connected toothbrushes aren't actually a new thing, what is new is Oral-B's new rose gold-coloured GENIUS toothbrush, billed as the smartest out there – and in that most on-trend of colours.

The brush is dubbed as beautiful and intelligent, able to "help improve oral health, beauty and confidence", and of course, in this most important of shopping-season, gift-giving quarters, as "the perfect gift for loved ones this holiday season".

Who needs anti-virus for your mouth when Oral-B tells us its GENIUS is "proven to remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush, and remove surface stains for a whiter, more beautiful smile?"

And you can watch staining mouth malware get the flick with Oral-B's "whitening mode", featuring a "dentist-inspired 3D White whitening round brush head, which has a unique polishing cup to help polish away surface stains".

Top that off with Bluetooth connectivity to the Oral-B App, which "offers up to five dental care journeys to help users achieve a beautiful and confident white smile", and you may well be champing at the bit to put this nice bit of kit into your mouth as quickly as possible.

Now, no modern piece of technology these days is without an ambassador, it seems, and the Oral-B Genius is no exception, with yet another "on-trend" feature – ambassadorial spokesperson Anna Heinrich.

She states: "In its on-trend hue, the Oral-B GENIUS in Rose Gold makes for the ultimate Christmas gift – I can’t wait to gift this brush to my friends and family this Christmas!”.

More on-trendiness comes in the form of "a stylish travel case that allows you to charge your smartphone and toothbrush at the same time, and a lithium-ion battery that can last up to two weeks on a full charge".

There's even the Oral-B GENIUS "SmartRing personalisation feature includes 12 different coloured LED lights that can be changed to suit anyone’s taste, mood, or bathroom".

Indeed, it seems the only thing the Oral-B Genius can't do is offer a swirling head to clean the screen of your smartphone, but at it does impressively act as a smartphone charger, so the only way this brush could be trendier is if it offered fully autonomous Tesla-level brushing, but hey, maybe we'll get there in the 2020s!

So, how does Oral-B say its new Genius can "upgrade your smile?"

Here's the low-down from the company.

"Not only", are we told, "is Oral-B GENIUS in Rose Gold the most beautiful brush, it is also the most intelligent.

"Equipped with motion sensors, Oral-B GENIUS connects with your smartphone to help guide your brushing and make sure you brush every area of your mouth, ensuring your optimal oral care.

"Developed by the professional designers at Braun, Oral-B GENIUS in Rose Gold helps users achieve optimum oral care through its state-of-the-art technology features:"

  • Position Detection Technology: Senses and recognises areas of the mouth users are cleaning via sensors built into the brush, so they never miss a zone, including those areas that are most often overlooked.
  • Oscillating-Rotating-Pulsating Technology: The Oral-B round brush head cleans tooth by tooth and reaches areas that are often missed by a regular manual toothbrush to provide a superior clean every day.
  • Triple Pressure Sensor Technology: Protects gums by alerting users with a visual warning when brushing too hard, automatically slowing down its speed and stopping pulsations.

The Professional Timer: Ensures users brush for the dental professional-recommended time of two minutes This year, give a beautifully intelligent gift with Oral-B GENIUS in Rose Gold, which can help users improve oral health, beauty and confidence from day one.

Now, what happens if Rose Gold is just too trendy for you, and you ache for some old school colours to get your teeth through another tough day of chewing?

Well, you'll then be pleased to now that Oral-B GENIUS is "also available in White, Silver, and Black, to suit all personalities and gifting needs."

Available for the A-rated price of $349.99, you can buy the new Oral-B Genius in Chemist Warehouse, David Jones, Harvey Norman, Myer, Priceline, Shaver Shop, and of course, it is available now.
