UPDATED: LG offers free 43-inch Smart TV to flog G6 smartphone via Telstra

Want a free 43-inch TV to tempt you into buying a new smartphone? LG’s doing just that, flogging a live TV with your G6 purchase.

Update: Telstra has provided more detail on when the LG TV is redeemable, please see towards the end of the article for the added info.

LG isn’t horsing around, and certainly not with dead horses when it comes to flogging its newest offer, and its newest smartphone.

The G6 is LG’s new flagship model, and while LG sadly didn’t have the courage to continue its modular experiment, something Motorola seems to have done with more vigour than LG could muster with the G5 last year, LG does make a lot of great consumer appliances and electronics.

With the price of TVs dropping to ever new lows, and with a 43-inch TV now comparatively tiny compared to the increasingly common 55, 65 and 75-inch TVs out there, it makes sense to throw in the electronic equivalent of the kitchen sink in an attempt to gain consumer interest and fight back against the Apple and Samsung juggernauts.

Of course, a TV is not a kitchen sink, but it can display as many kitchen sinks as you want, as long as you sink your funds into pre-ordering an LG G6 smartphone and, most importantly, redeeming the free TV offer within the timeframe specified so you don’t miss out on the deal.

So, with all that flogging out of the way above, what are the specifics of LG’s G6 and TV offer via Telstra?

Well, pre-ordering via Telstra starts tomorrow, on Wednesday, 22 March.

Telstra says it is “the exclusive telco partner for the LG G6 which will be available in store from 28 March.”

As with most flagship smartphones, LG’s is suitably equipped – it has what is termed a “5.7-inch QHD+ (2,880 x 1,440 resolution) FullVision display, and for the first time ever in a smartphone, an 18:9 screen aspect ratio providing more viewing space when streaming videos".

The LG G6 also introduces “popular features such as IP68 water & dust resistance and is also the first phone apart from Google’s Pixel, to feature Google Assistant".

More details about the G6 and its specs can be read in an iTWire article from late February here

Now, if you think you can just get a pre-paid G6 from Telstra to get a free LG TV, you can’t.

To qualify, you need to sign up to Telstra’s “$95/mth or above Go Mobile Plus, Go Mobile Swap, My Business Mobile Plus or My Business Mobile Lease plan for a 24-month term".

If you do so, you will be eligible to redeem a bonus LG 2017 43” Smart TV as a gift with purchase – if all is done within the LG Smart TV offer period.

That period is “from 22nd March 2017 to 9th May 2017".

Online redemption must be done via LG here, and redemptions must be submitted within 10 days of purchase. Sadly, at the time of publication this link does not yet work, but presumably it will by tomorrow. Update: This link now works.

Naturally, Telstra has more information about pricing and pre-ordering here, although at time of publication, the link does not work either. Again, it will probably work from tomorrow.

If there was some kind of embargo, it wasn't listed on the media release, and I have texted the relevant person at Telstra to alert them of the broken links.

UPDATE: Telstra has provided the additional info below for those wishing to pre-order the G6 and receive the 43-inch Smart TV:

Telstra expects "delivery of the LG TV to be @6 weeks".

"From 22nd March (pre order start date) to 8th May, the 2017 Smart TV will be an exclusive GWP offered to Telstra customers who sign up to the $95/mth and above Go Mobile Plus and Go Mobile Swap Plan.

"Customers taking up the LG G6 Device on these plans will be eligible for the LG 2017 43” FHD TV (Valued at $1099 RRP) and will receive this TV upon redemption through LG.

"Customers will need to visit the LG URL and provide a tax invoice with relevant information.

"Customers will need to redeem within 10 days of signing up to the plan with Telstra.

"Delivery of the TV will begin on the 22nd of May.

"Redemption cannot take place in store by a Telstra store consultant or a contact centre operator."
