Human Services Minister Michael Keenan said in a statement that recent improvements had made the portal simpler, faster and more efficient to use. The number of accounts had grown to 15 million.
myGov is now a front-end to Medicare, Centrelink, the Child Support Agency, the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the Australian Taxation Office.
“The record number of myGov accounts shows people are embracing the convenience that doing business with government online delivers,” Keenan said.
“The recent addition of the myGov digital assistant ‘Charles’ is also saving people time, so far answering more than 1.25 million common customer questions that previously would have required a phone call to obtain an answer.”
The introduction of an app for myGov had made it possible for people to use it overseas, the DHS said. The app provided a secure log-in for use where phone coverage was limited and people could not receive an SMS code to unlock their account. The app has now been downloaded more than 1.1 million times.
“The improvements we have been making are benefitting millions of Australians and demonstrate the government’s commitment to providing easy and secure options for people to access government services from anywhere and at any time,” Keenan said.
