VIDEO: Australia’s Dept of Defence re-imagines military social media Featured

By

Australia’s Department of Defence has worked with Deloitte Digital and Sitecore to create its own secure social network and secure e-Portal: ForceNet.

Sitecore and Deloitte Digital have been working with Australia’s Department of Defence to create ForceNet: ‘a military social network combining a professional and social platform, similar to LinkedIn and Facebook, with the recruitment and job search functionality of SEEK - in one, safe and highly secure online environment.’

That because, with more than 70,000 members across Australia and some of the most demanding, highly skilled roles to fill, recruitment and employee engagement have always been, so they claim, ‘very high priorities for the Department of Defence.’

Major General Iain Spence, Head Cadet, Reserve and Employer Support Division, noted that the solution to these challenges clearly lay in providing a better online community, and said: “We were already using Sitecore for our Defence Alumni Network and a number of other external Defence websites.”

So with Sitecore and Deloitte Digital’s help, ForceNet was born.

The Defence ForceNet Team said: “ForceNet provides the ADF with a secure e-Portal that resides outside of the restricted network enabling communication, coordination and workforce assurance for our permanent and reserve servicemen and women.”

Major General Spence added: “The ideal would be for ForceNet to replace our members’ other social profiles. We want to provide everything they need online, in one secure environment.”

Deloitte Digital noted: “The benefits of ForceNet go beyond improved communication and connectivity. Defence will more effectively understand its workforce including the diversity of skills, available industry experience, geographical dispersement and other key demographic information.

“Data driven insights can be used to improve forecasting accuracy and make more informed decisions on capability planning, sustainment and deployment thereby making an important contribution to preparedness. This knowledge will enable Defence to improve its supply and demand modelling while simultaneously establishing an online community that promotes sharing of information across all levels and increasing camaraderie.”

Sitecore and Deloitte Digital have created a short, 4.5 minute video case study. Unfortunately it is not on YouTube and there is no option to embed it, so you’ll have to click here to watch it

Sitecore said: ”ForceNet can be used anywhere, on any device, connected to the internet 24 hours a day, all in a secure environment where communications are only visible and accessible to those intended to see them. Through ForceNet, people can connect with each other socially or professionally across the organisation, within each service unit or via groups created to support professional and social networking."

Deloitte Digital’s page on ForceNet is here, with plenty more info.

The ForceNet site itself is here, but without authorised access, you won’t get far!

LAYER 1 ENCRYPTION A KEY TO CYBER-SECURITY SOLUTION

Security requirements such as confidentiality, integrity and authentication have become mandatory in most industries.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).

Get the full details on Layer-1 encryption solutions straight from PacketLight’s optical networks experts.

This white paper titled, “When 1% of the Light Equals 100% of the Information” is a must read for anyone within the fiber optics, cybersecurity or related industry sectors.
