Ars Technica technology reporter Peter Bright has been arrested on charges of soliciting sex with children online, according to a complaint filed in the US District Court in the Southern District of New York.

Bright, whose arrest was reported by The Daily Dot, is being held without bail, according to the complaint which charges him with soliciting sex with a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old through an undercover agent.

iTWire has contacted Ars Technica, a publication owned by the giant 110-year-old American publisher, Condé Nast, for comment.

Bright's last story for Ars was filed on 22 May, the day he was arrested. He wrote regularly about Microsoft and its software and hardware.

The complaint, filed by FBI special agent Elizabeth Jensen, says that between 18 April and 22 May Bright communicated with her to try and arrange sexual encounters with a purported seven-year-old and nine-year-old.

Jensen said she had posed as the mother of these two kids and posted a message on an online social media fetish platform known as KinkD, looking for people who were interested in teaching her children about the "birds and the bees".

A day after she posted this message, Bright made contact using the handle randomanon. She sent him a message on 1 May saying, "My princess is 7 and my Prince Charming is 9." He then suggested that they move to text messaging, the complaint alleges.

Two weeks later, the agent and Bright decided to continue their conversation on WhatsApp, and Bright provided Jensen with his mobile number to do so.

During the conversations that followed, Bright allegedly told the agent he had been "teaching" a 11-year-old girl in the Bronx area of New York for a couple of months.

The details provided by Bright are explicit and iTWire is not reproducing any of them here. But they made plain that he was deeply interested in coaching the children in sexual stimulation.

Later Bright sent medical results to Jensen to show that he was carrying any sexually transmitted diseases. They agreed to meet on 22 May and when they did, on Hudson Street in Manhattan, Bright was arrested and charged.

He agreed to speak to law enforcement officers, waiving his Miranda rights. He was then detained.
