Stan’s murderous Wolf Creek production to start on Season 2

Streaming service Stan slayed the field with its serial killing series, Wolf Creek, and to be a true serial killer, one series could never be enough.

Australian streaming service, Stan, has announced that John Jarratt has reprised his iconic role as Mick Taylor alongside a new star-studded cast of Wolf Creek, season two.

Production has begun in South Australia on what is being dubbed as “the highly anticipated second season of its award-winning, smash-hit, critically-acclaimed Stan Original drama series".

Director Greg McLean and star John Jarratt are continuing their “hugely successful collaboration in the world of Wolf Creek, with Jarratt reprising his role as the outback apex predator Mick Taylor, who returns with a vengeance after his season 1 showdown".

Just some of the other talented cast of stars and newcomers includes Tess Haubrich (Alien: Covenant), Matt Day (Rake, Paper Giants, Underbelly, Kiss or Kill), Ben Oxenbould (Comedy Inc., The Kettering Incident, The Code), Laura Wheelwright (Animal Kingdom), Stephen Hunter (The Hobbit, The Leftovers) and Chris Haywood (Shine, Muriel’s Wedding, Dogs in Space).

Naturally, in the SVOD battle of the cyber streamers, Stan pumps up its own original series tyres, boasting that original content has been “award-winning, fresh and diverse dramas, comedies and movies”, and proves this by mentioning its “AACTA Award-winning and Logie Award-nominated series No Activity, and One Night Stan, a series of full-length stand-up comedy specials and the forthcoming comedy The Other Guy, starring Matt Okine".

However, its Wolf Creek Season 2 that we’re reading this article for, which we’re told will be a six-part, high-end psychological thriller “pitting a diverse cast of characters against an inhospitable, remote landscape, whose lethal dangers are personified by the series’ infamous serial killer.”

The plot starts as Mick Taylor “sees an opportunity of a lifetime after a chance encounter with a coach full of tourists from around the globe. The unwitting travellers begin an outback adventure none of them could have imagined.”

Nick Forward, Stan’s chief content officer, wasted no time in putting a good foot and mouth forward by stating that: “Season 1 of Wolf Creek was a worldwide smash hit, thrilling and delighting Stan subscribers in equal measure, and breaking records all over the place.

“Season 2 will kick things up a notch: Greg McLean once again electrifying audiences with this new, fresh chapter in the iconic Wolf Creek saga. Season 2 is a breath-taking return to the intimate, character-driven style of the original WOLF CREEK movie, set over 6 hour-long episodes of premium drama. Once again, Stan will be the only place you can watch this unique drama, with global premieres internationally to follow.”

Director McLean added: “I’m delighted to be continuing my creative collaboration with Stan to bring this exciting new chapter of the Wolf Creek story to Stan subscribers.

“We’ll join an amazing cast on a road trip of a lifetime, as they must draw on their inner strength to outwit the terrifying Mick Taylor. John Jarratt returns to take Mick’s dark arts to a whole new level, showcasing the beautiful and dangerous landscapes of the remote outback.”

Rory Callaghan, chief executive of production company Screentime, said: “Screentime is very excited to be collaborating with Greg McLean & Stan on another thrilling season of Wolf Creek.

"Season 2 of the much loved, and critically acclaimed series, is shaping up to be a massive ride for audiences, old and new."

South Australian Film Corporation CEO Annabelle Sheehan added: “SAFC is delighted to welcome production of Wolf Creek back to South Australia, providing the setting for next instalment of this iconic Australian thriller series.

“One of the many advantages to shooting in South Australia is the easy access to the majestic yet fearsome outback locations which are so firmly rooted in the character of this story.”

As if it wasn’t already blindingly obvious, Stan’s media release ends by no sugar Sherlocking us with the Watsonian statement that “Wolf Creek Season 2 will release exclusively on Stan.”
