People still using a Samsung Note7 either have a death wish, or have somehow missed or ignored all of the extremely urgent warnings to turn off their Note7 and hand it back to Samsung or their place of purchase.
Unfortunately, because some people are either one loaf short of a dozen, one battery cell short of a full charge, have a death wish, or are somehow otherwise wilfully or ignorantly ignoring the indisputable reality that Samsung Note7s are explosively dangerous, Samsung has had to take action in conjunction with Australian telecommunications companies.
The company says it is "working with local telecommunications operators to discontinue Australian network services for Galaxy Note7 devices that are still being used in Australia".
Samsung Australia firmly states: "The network discontinuation will commence from December 15 and is part of Samsung’s ongoing safety measures to recover all affected Galaxy Note7 devices."
Thankfully, most Samsung customers are in possession of the full dozen loaves and have all their (brain) cells operating at full charge, because Samsung states that: "Galaxy Note7 customers in Australia have responded well to the recent recall, with only a small number of affected devices still in customers’ hands."
It’s those "small number of affected" bozos still using their Note7 and putting themselves, their families, their workmates and anyone anywhere in the vicinity of their faulty devices that insist on putting people into danger, and who will finally get a digital kick up the Khyber by having their devices forcefully disconnected from the network, which will turn a Note7 into a Not 7.
Samsung states: "Customers will be notified of this change on 1 December, with on-going communication and updates about the Australian network discontinuation distributed to customers over the next three weeks, to ensure adequate notice is provided.
"Samsung Australia urges any customer still using their Galaxy Note7 to power down and return their device to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement immediately. Alternatively, customers can call Samsung Customer Service on 1300 362 603 or visit Samsung’s recall notice page here."
A report in the Korea Herald suggests Samsung will explain why Note7s exploded "within the year", which apparently means by the end of 2016, not 12 months from today.
Samsung notes that, on 5 September, it "took the proactive and voluntary step to recall Galaxy Note7 smartphones in Australia. The recall was in response to an announcement by Samsung Electronics regarding issues with the Galaxy Note7.
"This recall was extended on 12 October to include Galaxy Note7 devices that were issued as replacement smartphones for the original Galaxy Note7.
"On 5 November, Samsung Australia deployed a software update to replacement Galaxy Note7 devices that were issued in Australia, minimising the maximum charge of every device to 60%.
"To apologise for this inconvenience and to thank our loyal customers, customers who exchange their Note7 for either the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, will (in addition to receiving (for outright purchases) a refund for the difference between the two resale prices) receive a specific partner offer to the value of $250. This offer will end on 22 December."
