FULL VIDEOS: iTWire Editor-in-Chief Stan Beer wins Kester Lifetime Achievement award Featured

At the 2016 Consensus Awards held in Sydney last night, iTWire won a finalist award for Best Website, with our Editor-in-Chief winning the coveted Kester Award.

Back in 2011, iTWire won the Best Website at the 2011 Consensus Awards, presented by then Federal Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, who was that evening’s special guest awards presenter.

This year, iTWire won a finalist award for Best Website, confirming iTWire’s quality technology journalism for its predominantly business tech audience, with ComputerWorld taking out the top honour.

It wasn’t to be the only accolade for iTWire, however, with our Editor-in-Chief and co-founder, Stan Beer, taking out the award night’s top honour, the Kester Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016 – something not awarded every year, but only when the right person is found to receive it.

Beer was recognised for a stellar career with more than 30 years in the industry as a top technology journalist and technology editor, across several respected Australian technology publications, including The Australian and The Australian Financial Review.

The Kester Award is named after the late IT journalist Kester Cranswick, who died tragically of cancer in 1994 at the age of 37, and who was, and is, still beloved by his peers.

A collection of heartfelt stories about Kester from his colleagues, friends and co-workers can be read on the Kester stories page at the Consensus website here.

Beer gave a short speech remembering his friendship with Kester, and his continuing sorrow over Kester’s tragic passing. He then proceeded to thank his colleagues, co-founders and co-workers, and was graciously received by the audience as the Kester Lifetime Achievement award winner for 2016.

This year, the 2016 Consensus Awards celebrates its 20th year, with Consensus noting that it specialises in the design and management of industry development/award and recognition programs.

Consensus states it is the world’s most successful awards program, given that independent analysis of the "winners since 1999 shows that 90% of the winners have gone on to be extremely successful world-wide".

Indeed, Consensus proudly boasts that its "judges have got it right 9 times out of 10, year on year, on year, on year!"

The night’s special guest award presenter was the very eloquent Ed Husic MP, Member for Chifley, Shadow Spokesperson for Digital Innovation and Startups.

The full list of 2016 Finalists can be seen here, with the full list of award winners to be updated here later today, although they can be seen in the 'Part 4 video' below.

The introduction of the Kester Lifetime Achievement Award and a special recognition of Kester Cranswick before the presentation of the award to Beer, and Beer’s speech, can be seen in full here.

Below are the segments of the awards in full, leading up in chronological order to the end of the night’s awarding of the Kester Award, which I’ve started with.
