The Australian competition watchdog has extended the date for giving a final decision on the proposed merger between telcos Vodafone Hutchison Australia and TPG Telecom from 28 March to 11 April.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commissions says that removing TPG, which it viewed as being on the way to becoming a fourth mobile competitor in Australia, from the fray through its merger with Vodafone would substantially lessen competition in the sector.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has decided to extend the declaration of Telstra's six fixed-line telecommunications services until 30 June 2024.
