Online payments provider Stripe has opened its platform to allow Australian businesses, and businesses worldwide, to accept payments from Chinese consumers who use mobile payment platforms Alipay and WeChat Pay.
Australia was ranked the fourth highest selling country in Chinese online retailer Aibaba’s Global Shopping Festival last Friday, driven by an increased number of Australian businesses participating, as well as what Alibaba describes as “stand-out performances” by several local retailers and brands.
The Commonwealth Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Alipay, the world’s largest mobile and online payment platform operated by Chinese giant Ant Financial Services Group, to deliver payment solutions aimed at benefitting Australian and Chinese consumers and retailers.
