Telstra has upped the ante in the battle for the hearts and minds of subscribers and the “surging” popularity of on-demand entertainment and streaming services into the home. The big telco blasted on to the market on Monday by launching new Internet entertainment bundles and new Wi-Fi technology it claims will push in-home speeds and coverage to new levels.
Streaming video service Netflix has leapt well ahead of its rivals in the Australian market with subscribers to its service now on the verge of hitting the five million mark.
Netflix expects to add 2 million members internationally to its service in the second quarter of this year, as the company reports that its Australian business is growing steadily for the quarter, albeit less than the launch spike of last year.
