The Australian Government says upgrades to Western Victoria’s transmission network are a step closer, with the Australian Energy Market Operator’s latest report advising that up to 6000 megawatts of new renewables are expected to connect to the region’s transmission network by 2030.
A successful demonstration of 400Gbps speeds over 61.5 GHz spectrum on Telstra’s transmission network in Melbourne has shown "the highest spectral efficiency per fibre pair ever achieved in a live environment and enables up to 30.4 terabit per second (Tbps) bandwidth".
Telstra has completed the second upgrade of its transmission network by deploying high-capacity next-generation optical transport technology between five Australian cities – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
