Data, insights and consulting firm Kantar says smartphone purchasing has shifted to online channels during the coronavirus pandemic, with nearly two-thirds of sales in the second quarter of 2020 coming from digital buys, up 11% year-on-year in Germany, the UK, Spain, Italy, France, the US and Japan.
Smartphone sales in the US have fallen by 21% year-on-year in the first quarter of the year, the technology analyst firm Counterpoint Research says, adding that this was driven by store closures and stay-at-home orders later in the quarter.
Smartphone sales in China during the first quarter of 2020 fell by 22% year-on-year, the biggest decline experienced by the country so far, but sales of 5G smartphones rose by 120%, the analyst firm Counterpoint Research says.
