A Greens member of the Victorian Parliament has slammed the State Government's move to impose a tax on electric vehicles from July next year, claiming it signalled "a dangerous step towards a privatised road user charge scheme in Victoria".
The Victorian Government will spend $626 million on a Digital Future Now initiative to improve mobile coverage and broadband access in regional areas and supporting businesses by creating new jobs in the process.
In what seems to be a rather strange reversal of roles, the Labor Government in Victoria has announced a tax on electric cars and hybrid plug-in vehicles from July 2021 while a Federal Liberal MP, Trent Zimmerman, has penned an op-ed castigating both Victoria and South Australia for their plans to tax EVs.
