Singapore telco Singtel is investing S$45 million over three years in a professional development program designed to boost the digital skills of its 12,600 employees.

Optus moves step closer to 5G commercial launch

Australia’s second largest telco, the Singtel-owned Optus, says it has taken another significant step towards its commercial launch of 5G by making a 5G data call on 60 MHz using 3.5 GHz spectrum.

Telstra is taking up an equity partnership in Southern Cross Cable Networks with an investment that gives it extra capacity in the trans-Pacific subsea cable.

INDIGO subsea cable nearing completion

Installation of the INDIGO Central subsea cable is due to be completed in early December, and will provide a “new and unique” subsea communications link between Sydney and Perth.

INDIGO cable first stage done with landing in Perth

The first section of the INDIGO subsea cable system has been completed with the landing of the INDIGO West cable at Floreat Beach in Perth, according to a statement from Singapore telco, Singtel.

Singapore telco Singtel claims to achieved peak LTE speeds of 1.5Gbps using five-carrier aggregation in a lab environment, using a Viavi Solutions and Stellent Networks TM500 test system. This is claimed to be the fastest speed achieved in Asia.

Optus profits decline for previous quarter

Australia's second largest telco Optus suffered a drop in profits for the quarter ending 30 June despite increasing revenue and subscriber numbers. The company's latest financial report for the quarter to the end of June this year revealed net profits for the three months dropped by 3.5% to $154 million from $160 million for the corresponding period in 2017.
