A new email scam using St George Bank trademarks has been revealed, where scammers try and deceive victims into submitting their bank login details to a phishing site.
Cyber security firm Proofpoint has uncovered a new cryptocurrency giveaway scam targeting ethereum and bitcoin, which it says uses emails and Twitter to trick victims into providing a small payment in exchange for a much larger payout, or return payment.
Scammers fleeced an average of nearly $6500 from Indigenous Australians in 2017, a 14% increase on 2016, with total losses to scams around $1.7 million – with the most losses incurred by Indigenous victims of dating and romance scams.
