New Zealand electricity company Aurora Energy has been hit with a High Court order to pay almost $5 million for contravening its network quality standards through an excessive level of power outages in the 2016 to 2019 years.
More than 1.7 million people were affected by 327 power outages in 2017, according to a new report which says overall power outages in Australia increased by 19% , with Queensland overtaking New South Wales as the top blackout state after Cyclone Debbie caused devastation along the east-coast in March.
Three million people across Australia and New Zealand were affected by more than 240 power outages in 2016 with New South Wales topping the list of Australian states for the third year in a row with 33 power outages.
