Japan gears up with nuclear power

Under a plan to counter global warming, advance cleaner energies, and promote energy security, Japan is heading toward an expansion of its nuclear power capabilities. With a majority of its energy needs imported from foreign sources, Japan wants to change that instability.

If the Russian Federal Space Agency has its way, Russian cosmonauts will fly a nuclear-powered spacecraft on a space mission, possibly to the planet Mars, sometime after 2021.

On March 28, 1979, a nuclear accident at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station caused a partial meltdown of one of its reactors but a near total meltdown for U.S. nuclear power over the next 30 years. Now, the nuclear power industry is coming back in the face of a dirty atmosphere.
