Australia’s National Relay Service (NRS) which provides telecommunications services to support people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment to make and receive phone calls, has ceased to use the CapTel handset.
The Federal Government is taking legal action to compel the outgoing provider of the National Relay Service (NRS), Australian Communications Exchange (ACE), to support CapTel captioned telephone handset users to transition to alternate services.
The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network has raised concerns about future federal government funding of the National Relay Service which has a critical role as a communications channel for Australians who are deaf, hearing-impaired or speech-impaired.
