Pay-by-mobile trial gets the nod

A contactless payment trial using mobile phones instead of cards has proved successful, and may help pave the way for an international scheme for making small payments by waving handsets.

Cabcharge Australia is to install new VeriFone EFTPOS terminals in all 18,000 taxis using its service. These will support chip and PIN, pen and PIN, contactless and, down the track, near field communications (NFC) that will enable taxi FAres to be paid from NFC enabled cellphones.
