Telstra says it will eliminate black spots at 131 locations under Round Four of the Federal Government mobile black spot program, “expanding its investment to bring new or improved coverage to more communities in regional Australia”.

Telecommunications consumer interest lobby group ACCAN says rural and remote telecoms consumers will be better protected if recommendations put forward by the 2018 Regional Telecommunications Review are adopted by the Australian Government. But it has harsh criticism of regional consumers being promised telecoms services that could not be delivered.

Australia’s second largest telco Optus is preparing to build 16 new mobile sites as part of the NSW Government’s mobile black spot program at a total cost of $12 million, with half of the funding provided by Optus itself and half by the State Government.
