Microsoft, Facebook in merger talks

The world's biggest maker of operating systems, Microsoft, and the world's largest social media site, Facebook, are in secret merger talks, iTWire has been reliably told.

Microsoft's proposal for a secure boot process in Windows 8 has alarmed GNU/Linux vendors and the body that caters to kernel development to the extent that they have drafted documents to specify how such a process can be used without hindering the use of other operating systems.

FOSS luminaries ignore Ritchie's passing

Twelve days ago, the computing pioneer Dennis Ritchie was found dead at the age of 70. News of his demise was broken to the world by a former colleague, Rob Pike, who worked alongside him at Bell Labs.
