Apple goes digital TV, Disney downloads and new iPods

Apple came out with guns blazing at its showtime event today, unveiling a US$299 set top box that will wirelessly stream downloaded movies and music to living room TVs, new Walt Disney movie downloads for US$12.99 and new iPod models, including an 80GB video iPod.

What's it all about, Apple, Downloads?

Apple's media event titled Showtime is fast approaching and the whole industry is abuzz with rumours, speculation and supposedly inside information. However, nobody outside of the inner circle really knows whether come September 12, we'll get a movie downloads service, a new iPod video device, an Apple TV set-top box, a new portable combo device that can connect to your TV and stereo system or some subset combination of all of these things.

ICM Registry, the US-based internet company that for six years had planned to register a .xxx domain for "adult" content has filed a Freedom of Information demand against the US Department of Commerce. ICM claims the US Government agency exerted political influence to have the creation of the domain quashed.
