The telecommunications regulator ACMA has taken action against 15 telcos for failing to provide vital information that supports Australia’s emergency services such as Triple Zero and the Emergency Alert system.
A newly registered Industry Code is expected to improve the accuracy of the public number customer database that is relied on by emergency services to help Australians in danger or distress.
Macquarie Telecom has been sanctioned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority for contravening the Telecommunications Act and failing to upload customer data for some of its landline and mobile services to the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND).
