If you thought HD DVD meant ‘high def dead video disc’ and that Blu-ray had won the war, Universal Australia’s announcement of at least 20 new titles in 2008 is certainly comforting to local HD DVD player owners – but is it enough to stem the tide of consumer support for Blu-ray?

January sales show HD DVD finished

The Blu-ray camp has won the high definition video format war and can start popping the champagne corks. It was a brave fight but based on the latest US sales figures of standalone HD video players, it's time for Toshiba and the rest of the HD DVD camp to throw in the towel and concede defeat.
