Open second-level .au domains - cui bono?

auDA, the body responsible for the management of the .au namespace, is considering allowing second-level domain registrations such as myname.au. Who would benefit?

The important role such laws could play in bolstering Australia’s cyber-security capabilities has been largely lost in the uproar about the government’s proposed mandatory metadata retention laws, according to the chief of  Australia’s domain regulatory authority.
