A week ahead of announcing its first-quarter results for fiscal 2019-20, the NBN Co has announced new plans for its wholesale satellite customers which will not count data used for email, Web browsing and critical software updates towards monthly data allowances.
Australia’s mobile services market will undergo significant change, with the advent of 5G driving price competition, according to a new report which estimates the number of 5G connections will reach more than 10 million by the end of FY2022. It also says at least one network operator will begin shutting down 3G services by 2020.
Mobile is king and fixed line is fading fast, with consumers relying more and more on their mobile devices for voice calling, as mobile voice minutes rose by seven billion in the 12 months to the end of the 2016-2017 financial year. And, competition has benefitted consumers, with price drops and better value for money, according to the competition regulator.
