US President Donald Trump appears to have opened a can of worms by stating that he would intervene in the case against Meng Wanzhou, the chief financial officer of Chinese telecommunications company Huawei, if it would help achieve a trade deal for the US.
A Chinese newspaper has accused the US of resorting to a "despicable rogue's approach" in asking Canada to arrest the daughter of the founder of Huawei, and says this is because Washington "cannot stop Huawei's 5G advance in the market".
The chief financial officer of Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei Technologies has been arrested in Vancouver and is facing extradition to the US over alleged violation of US trade sanctions against Iran.
That is astounding.
