European astronomers have announced that 32 exoplanets have just been discovered using instruments at the European Southern Observatory, taking the number of planets orbiting around stars other than the Sun to over 400.

When galaxies collide: bright, bizarre NGC 2623

The Hubble Space Telescope has just revealed a gigantic collision of two spiral galaxies about 250 million light-years away from our own Milky Way galaxy. Check out the images of the resulting "bright and bizarre" galaxy that astronomers are calling NGC 2623.

The Western Australian town of Geraldton, 460 kilometres north of Perth, is set to play a key role in Australian astronomy in support of the bid to host the $2.5 billion Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio-telescope, with the Australian Government’s announcement today that a new research facility is to be built in the town.
