Tax time tech spend

With the end of the financial year looming and a lots of cool, new tech coming consumers will be thinking about where to spend their tax refund cheques. Even those wanting an iPad, a device that many say is little more than a glorified iPod, will be getting in on the act with news that the Australian Tax Office has declared it a legitimate tax deduction for education and a 'laptop' for the purpose of salary sacrifice.

Google boosts index with caffeine shot

Google claims that stale indexes will be a thing of the past and that new web content will appear faster with the completion of their new indexing system - Caffeine. Rather than the old system that required trawling the entire web to update the index, Caffeine takes a more granular approach.

Are Apple's sales stats dodgy?

During his WWDC 2010 keynote address, Apple CEO Steve Jobs boasted that the iPhone was currently number two behind RIM in smartphone sales. He quoted a Nielsen survey but there was a noticeable absentee in Apple's stats - Symbian. So what's the truth?
