Telstra’s NYE 2015 app launches - no drones but plenty of fireworks

In 2014, Telstra was trumpeting a drone extravaganza for its NYE 2014 app, but in NYE 2015 Telstra’s going back to basics.

Last year, Telstra had a drone in the skies providing a 360-degree view of the fireworks, as iTWire reported on here.

In 2015, Telstra is yet again the ‘proud partner of Sydney New Year’s Eve’ for the fourth year running, and the NYE app will still ‘connect the world to this spectacular event.’

The Sydney NYE Telstra App will allow users with an Australian mobile number to pre-load up to 50 standard SMS that Telstra will send for free from midnight local time, helping to connect friends and family throughout the festivities.

Fans in Australia and around the globe can also experience the world class event live.

Exclusive to Telstra, the fireworks displays at both 9pm and midnight will be streamed on the app, (iOS version here,  Android version here) as well as on Telstra’s NYE page and via Telstra’s YouTube Channel

Telstra says ‘you’ll feel like you’re right in the middle of the iconic Sydney Harbour.’

Telstra General Manager of Loyalty & Partnerships, Fady Taouk, said Telstra was ‘thrilled to once again support such a breathtaking event.’

“Telstra is delighted to collaborate with City of Sydney and provide audiences in Australia and globally with the opportunity to connect with one of the biggest New Year’s Eve spectacles in the world,” said Taouk.

The 2015 Sydney New Year’s Eve Telstra App will also provide Australians with exciting content leading up to NYE, as well as events news on the night itself.

If you’re in Sydney on the night, the App can also help you find a great spot to watch the fireworks.

More below, please read on.

The Sydney NYE Telstra App is free to download, and is available from the App Store and Google Play. As per usual, data charges from whichever mobile network you’re connected to will apply.

In any case, Telstra says ‘it’s the best way to connect to Sydney NYE no matter where you are,' are invites Twitter users to join in the conversation at #TELSTRANYE

Active Vs. Passive DWDM Solutions

An active approach to your growing optical transport network & connectivity needs.

Building dark fibre network infrastructure using WDM technology used to be considered a complex challenge that only carriers have the means to implement.

This has led many enterprises to build passive networks, which are inferior in quality and ultimately limit their future growth.

Why are passive solutions considered inferior? And what makes active solutions great?

Read more about these two solutions, and how PacketLight fits into all this.
