Sphero and Star Wars add new BB-8 holographic content

The lead-up to the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie continues with yet more new holographic content for BB-8 now arriving.

If you’ve bought into the ball of fun that is the new Star Wars Droid BB-8, which appears to be R2-D2’s younger brother or cousin, then you’ll be pleased to know this app-connected, app-controlled toy has some new tricks up its metaphorical sleeve.

BB-8’s creator, Sphero, reminds us that ‘this is the first time that a toy has ever been able to launch exclusive hologram content’, which is presumably in addition to the fact BB-8 has already introduced new holographic content just recently

You can view the new content inside the BB-8 by Sphero app, which as a BB-8 owner you would already have, as it is the app that lets you remote control BB-8 and race him around the room.

You don’t have to do anything special to get the new content - content within the app is ‘updated automatically’ - just go to the ‘messages’ section of the app on your smartphone or tablet to get access.

The new content includes:

First is Captain Phasma who can ‘holographically’ appear on screen to say the following phrases, or in the fourth option, to hear weapon special effects.

  • On my command, fire!
  • Report to my division at once.
  • Move! To your ships, now!
  • Weapon sfx.

The article continues below this ad, please read on!

Second is a ‘First Order’ Stormtrooper who appears, also with three catchphrases and some sound effects:

  • We’re taking you into custody!
  • Sir, Resistance fighters!
  • Move out, let’s go!
  • Weapon sfx.

Third is a visual of a ‘First Order’ Tie Fighter, which will display with some special effects.

Whether there is more content coming isn’t disclosed but it would certainly make sense that more is yet to come.

So, if you’ve got a BB-8, check out the new effects, and if you haven’t, there’s even more fun to be had playing with one!
