The pair said that it would be working together to boost the number of 4K movies and TV shows to the Netflix platform, and doing so more quickly as well.
Sony said its new 4K Bravia TV sets will offer Netflix’s 4K programming to its subscribers — an arrangement similar to ones the streaming service unveiled today with Samsung and LG.
All of Netflix’s new original productions will be shot in 4K, CEO Reed Hastings said at a Sony press conference. “
It’s a chance for the Internet to really shine,” he added. His company can pump the sharp images through broadband connections that deliver data at a rate of less than 15 MB per second.

“This is very practical, over WiFi if you want to,” Hastings says. After the Netflix chief left, Sony Electronics President Mike Fasulo noted that there’ll be additional 4K content from Sony’s Crackle online service and Hulu. Sony gogglesShows including including Trophy Wife, The Blacklist, and The Michael J. Fox Show are being shot in 4K.
Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, said his company viewed the Internet as "the natural medium to deliver [4K video] as the first million homes with 4K TVs don't have much content except that found on the net."
While original Netflix content, such as House of Cards later this year, will be shot, edited and processed in 4K, oher TV series, like Breaking Bad for example, will be remastered in 4K, though no timeline for this was given.
