iPad 2, AirPlay and Firemint take on Wii U

By

With a new home console on the way, and a revolutionary new controller to accompany it, some would argue that the Nintendo Wii U 'won' this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.  But it looks like local Melbourne based developer Firemint will trump the Nintendo experience with its Real Racing 2 HD for iPad making a spit screen appearance using iOS 5 and AirPlay.

Australian developer Firemint, now owned by video game behemoth Electronic Arts, is managing to keep its titles abreast of current technology, announcing recently that its iPad game Real Racing 2 HD will now support wireless connectivity to a big screen TV via Apple's AirPlay.

By utilising the AIrPlay device, Real Racing 2 HD enables virtual racers to expand the iPad 2 experience onto their high definition living room television.  Though you will need to have an AirPlay compatible device (such as AppleTV) running the newly announced iOS5.

Real Racing 2 HD is a fully fledged, yet bite sized motor racing experience currently available for the iPad (and in SD format on the iPhone and iPod Touch), according to the developer however, the split screen streaming  will bring further freshness to the title: 'Firemint's Real Racing 2 HD with AirPlay is a game-changer,Relish Real Racing 2 HD's superb visuals as they're streamed effortlessly to your big screen TV. Grip your iPad 2 and steer with unerring precision and the freedom of wireless play. Stay closer than ever to the track with real-time racing telemetry, displayed directly on your iPad's screen.'

This will bring a similar (though not as fully fleshed out) experience to the living room as Nintendo are hoping to do with the Wii U, the HD successor to the highly successful Wii video game console.
