EyeTV updated for iPad compatibility

By

The latest version of the popular EyeTV television tuner application for Mac OS X features an export preset to suit the iPad.

EyeTV 3.4 features one-click export of recordings to a format suitable for playback on the iPad. It also supports live streaming to the forthcoming EyeTV for iPhone/iPad app.

A toolbar button in EyeTV can be configured to use settings optimised for the iPad or whichever device the owner most commonly uses for playback away from the computer.

Expected this week, version 1.1 of the EyeTV app ($A5.99/$US4.99; free upgrade for existing owners) will handle streaming of live or recorded programs from a Mac to an iPad via Wi-Fi or 3G.

For those living in New Zealand, EyeTV 3.4 now supports the IceTV program guide for thaqt country and includes a three month free trial.

Elgato has announced that EyeTV 3.4 will be the last version that will work on PowerPC based Macs.

EyeTV is a free upgrade for existing owners; new licences cost $US79.95/$Atba. A lower-end Elgato tuner bundled with EyeTV is sometimes cheaper than the software alone, but unlike full versions, these OEM-style licences typically won't work with other manufacturer's tuners.
