A spinoff from the popular EVE Online, Valkyrie is a sci-fi shooter made by CCP Games and co-published with Oculus which will see players piloting their own spacecraft in dogfights throughout the EVE universe.
What sets Valkyrie apart from other aerial combat games however is the fact that it has been built from the ground up to run on the Oculus Rift, putting players inside the cockpit of their spacecraft with a greater sense of immersion than ever before.
The game was used to show off the new Crystal Cove prototype of the Oculus Rift at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year.
The new hardware added 1080p resolution to the system as well as enabling head tracking for a far greater sense of immersion.
Robert Clarke from CCP games stated that they “wanted people to really feel like they were there—to sense the vastness of space, feel the confined area of the cockpit and get that adrenaline rush as you see an exploding fighter whizz past your head.”
There is still no official release date for the consumer release of the Oculus Rift or EVE: Valkyrie, however it is expected that the system will launch later this year.
