The company already supported a variety of formats. Dymocks' web site offers more than 150,000 ebooks - nearly 141,000 of them in PDF form, plus more than 38,000 that are Mobipocket compatible.
The announcement adds almost 29,000 titles in ePub format and nearly 3200 in DNL format.
ePub is an open standard used by a variety of vendors. Supported platforms include Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, Windows Mobile, iPhone OS, BlackBerry, and Symbian.
Apple's recently released iPad supports ePub through the iBooks app.
ePub allows the use of DRM without specifying or mandating any particular scheme. Thus FairPlay-protected ePub books can only be read using Apple's iBooks, and those using Adobe Content Server require Adobe's reader.
As for DNL, please see page 2.
It also supports quizzes and tests, which can be marked internally (eg, for simple quizzes) or forwarded electronically for human marking. The same features can be used to collect feedback and other information.
DNL includes a proprietary DRM scheme.
"The launch of these new formats on our website will give our eBook readers an interactive and enhanced reading experience like no other," said Dymocks CEO, Don Grover.
