B&O Play has announced that Google Cast ‘is now available in the two in-market network speakers from B&O PLAY, the BeoPlay A6 and the second-generation BeoPlay A9, and will be a standard in all network speakers going forward.’
The only caveats here are that this will be ‘in markets where Google Cast technology is available,’ that Spotify support is ‘coming soon’ and that your speakers will need to automatically update themselves first with Google Cast compatible firmware.
A full introduction of B&O PLAY and Google Cast is here.
As existing Google Cast users would be aware, ‘Google Cast lets you enjoy music streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn on your network speakers. You simply tap the Cast button in your favourite mobile music app to start playing on your B&O PLAY network speakers.’
Corporate VP of B&O PLAY, Henrik Taudorf Lorensen said: “Connecting your music seamlessly to your speaker has always been key to B&O PLAY.
“With Google Cast, you can enjoy music directly from the cloud instead of playing music from your device, which gives premium audio quality and ensures that incoming calls or texts are not disrupting the music.
“We believe that freedom of choice in streaming technologies is increasingly important to consumers, so we are proud to bring Google Cast to our network speakers.”

As alluded to above, Google Cast is updated automatically in all in-market B&O PLAY network speakers - so end-users shouldn’t have to do anything at all to enjoy Google Cast compatibility.
B&O advises that its ‘two in-market network speakers from B&O PLAY, the Beoplay A6 and the second-generation Beoplay A9’ are ‘already compatible with the Google Cast technology, so Google Cast will be added to these speakers through an automatic update available from May 12th.’
Many B&O Play users may already be streaming to their speakers, as the company’s network speakers already offered support for ‘Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth, giving B&O PLAY user’s freedom of choice between a variety of streaming technologies.’
Good to see Google finally catching up. :-)
